💡 Why Duplicate a Project?

When managing multiple similar projects, duplication becomes a powerful time-saving tool. By duplicating a project, you can:

  • Reuse existing structures — replicate task hierarchies, sections, and dependencies.
  • Preserve workflows — maintain your proven templates and recurring formats.
  • Ensure consistency — align timelines, milestones, and reporting across teams.

Using project copy helps project managers and teams scale operations while maintaining control and visibility across all their Gantt charts online.

⚙️ How to Duplicate a Project

Duplicating a project in Instagantt takes just a few seconds:

  1. Navigate to the Projects area in the sidebar.
  2. Click the project you want to duplicate to load it.
  3. Click the Duplicate Project icon (two stacked squares) on the top toolbar.
  4. Enter a new project name and start date in the duplication dialog and confirm.

Your duplicated project will now appear in your project list, ready to be customized — all tasks, dates, and dependencies are copied automatically.

⚠️ Tip: Folders (Instagantt Standalone) and Groups of Projects (Instagantt for Asana) can't be copied, so the Duplicate Project button won't appear. Try duplicating the projects individually, then add them to a new Folder or Group.

🔄 Move Projects Between Workbooks

In Instagantt Standalone, you can also use project duplication to move a project from one workbook to another.

Keep in mind that while most project data will copy successfully, the Assignee field may not transfer automatically. To ensure all assignees are preserved, make sure you’ve invited the same users to the target workbook before duplicating.

If the users aren’t invited yet, you’ll see the Assignee field marked as Unassigned in the duplicated version.
